As a firm, we have always believed that tablets like iPad will bring in significant business value in a few industries – Publishing, Retail & Pharma come to the top of the list in my mind. This week, I wanted to share our own experience in implementing iPad based mobility solutions at a luxury retailer, as well as the value delivered for the retailer.
We helped implement an iPad based rich-media catalog solution at Brighton, a luxury retailer based in Los Angeles. The solution enabled the retailer to publish rich media content like videos and images, mostly product information, to iPads that are maintained in stores. The content is managed centrally, with access controls that ensure that the right people get access to the right content, as well as reporting that ensures visibility to the popularity and effectiveness of the content.
From an employee stand-point, these iPads act as training devices, providing rich-media content on the products, while on the go. The app also doubles up as cool-looking catalogs for consumers, who can now browse through the products in a much better way than using a laptop.
According to one of the regional sales head at Brighton, “Each store was excited about learning more and they were engaged when holding the iPad. It was very cool to present product information in that way. I see this as a great tool.”
I went to one of the Brighton stores to see how the iPad is being used – The people in the store were excited about the iPad application. Below is a quick snap from one of the stores:
If you have used any tablet applications in your retail environment, we will be interested to know. Please drop a line. We will come back with a few more interesting applications for iPads and similar tablets in retail, all from our experience.
